GIS Short Course
The International School of Geospatial Health is the training program of the Global Network for Geospatial Health (www.gnosisgis.org). Aims are to promote health applications of the geospatial sciences by offering entry level courses to health scientists and to foster routine use of geospatial methodologies in epidemiological studies and disease control programs.

Guided by certified instructors, students will learn to use methods presented step-by-step in a 10-module course manual and lessons resource dataset entitled ‘Geospatial Health and Environment’. Each student will develop a course project using health data from their own research or data from control programs at their home institution. Satellite imagery and GIS shapefiles in a ‘Minimum Medical GIS Database’ are provided on CDROM’s to each student for use in health GIS applications.

This shortcourse will be held prior to the 2nd International Symposium on Geospatial Health, December 5-7 and the 57th Annual meeting of the American Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene, December 8-11, 2008.
